Everybody Scream

Florence Welch’s sixth album, Everybody Scream, continues the band’s tradition of transforming personal trauma into expansive, cathartic music. Each album opens with Welch confronting aftermaths—this time shaped by her near-death experience from an ectopic pregnancy during the Dance Fever tour in 2023. The record channels grief, anger, and resilience through arena-pop baroque arrangements, featuring cinematic strings, massive drums, and Welch’s fiery vocals.

Themes of physical and psychological struggle dominate tracks like “Kraken” and “The Old Religion,” where Welch grapples with bodily alienation and the desire for relief from pain. Production by Idles’ Mark Bowen and the National’s Aaron Dessner, with guest contributions from Mitski, injects both raucous energy and sweeping, mythical textures. Songs like “Drink Deep” combine primordial intensity with hypnotic vocal incantations, highlighting Welch’s continued evolution in channeling personal trauma into dramatic, cathartic soundscapes.
